Thanks to Adam Gromek, Stanisław Oparowski and Polish Consulate in LA, we played again in sunny California between 21st and 31st of May 2015. This time an American singer Diane Davidson joined the group. We performed at the Sacramento Music Festival, in Redwood City, at Cordova Rancho, Lake Wildwood and in Grass Valley. We finished our American tour at the Polish Heritage Festival in Belmont.
Dixie Company American Tour
Between May 14 and May 27, 2014 we visited the United States of America. Our ‘American Tour’ was made possible by a generous grant from Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region in Poznań and additional support provided by the Polish Cultural Institute New York.
The tour began in Poznań’s Sister City Toledo, Ohio, where on May 14 and 15 we performed in University of Toledo Recital Hall. Our visit to Toledo was made possible thanks to Toledo-Poznań Alliance, a body founded to foster the links of friendship and knowledge between people of Toledo, Ohio area and Poznań, Poland area. We received a warm welcome from local Polish community who hosted us in their homes and showed us around the city and beautiful lake Erie. During the official welcome ceremony we were greeted by D. Michael Collins, Mayor of Toledo. The band was also honored by being presented Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.
Having spent four wonderful days in Ohio we flew to the West Coast of the United States. Dixie Company gave a show in Wildwood City and were a headliner during Annual Polish Festival in Sacramento. Our stay in the capital of California was made possible thanks to Elżbieta and Adam Gromek and Sacramento Polish community. We were truly touched by wonderful hospitality of all the people we met there. The band members were hosted by Marianna and Tomek Samlik, Bożena and Mirek Buraś and Maria and Stan Oparowski. Thanks to their generosity we visited picturesque places in California, such as Lake Tahoe, Nevada City or San Francisco with its famous Golden Gate Bridge.
Taking part in Sacramento Music Festival was the crowning set of events of Dixie Company American Tour. Sacramento Music Festival is the biggest traditional jazz festival in the world gathering nearly 250 thousand music fans every year. Dixie Company was the only European band among 79 artists taking part in this year’s edition of this splendid event. We gave 10 concerts during the 4-days of the Festival.
Most of the gigs took part in prestigious Ball Rooms of Hyatt Regency, Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites and Golden Eagle Rooms Hotel as well as Courtyard D’Oro, Firehouse Lot and Riverfront Refuge music clubs. Not only were the rooms full during our concerts but every time we received standing ovation from fantastic American audience. At some point we were joined by Diane Risk, brilliant American singer. She joined our shows spontaneously and even though we had never met before, Dixie’s music and her talent just ‘clicked’. Since real art knows no boundaries, we already have plans to perform together during the biggest European jazz festival in Dresden.
During our concerts in the US, Dixie Company emphasized our European and Wielkopolska character and we took every chance to present special folders containing information about the band as well as the European Regional Development Fund within the Wielkopolska Regional Operational Programme for 2007-2013 - European Funds - for the development of an innovative Wielkopolska. Our festival polo-shirts and the pressing of CDs was financed by Krzysztof Smoliński, the President of Steelpress Production. Right after the festival Dixie Company were invited to next year’s edition of Sacramento Music Festival.
